Dear Friends and Visitors,
Welcome to Austin Classical School. Thank you for taking the time to explore our site and learn more about us.
Raising up children who love Christ with all their heart and with all their mind is an awesome responsibility for every family, and making a decision about which school to send your children is not always easy. Here at Austin Classical School, our aim is to equip parents for this task by offering a classical and Christian education built around a collaborative schedule.
As our mission states, “Austin Classical School exists to glorify Jesus Christ by co-laboring with families to cultivate wise, virtuous, and humble students through an excellent classical, Christian education.” You can learn more about each of these distinctives by following the appropriate links:
When we pause to consider that our original 10 families and 13 students have multiplied into 160 families and over 330 students in ten years it is humbling to see God on the move in Austin. You can explore our site to learn more about an Austin Classical education or, even better, you can schedule a visit to meet our wonderful faculty, staff, and students, experiencing Austin Classical School in action!
In the planning and preparation for this school year, I’ve been reminded once again of the scope of our calling in this journey of parenting and educating our children. Ephesians 6:4 exhorts us to “bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Deuteronomy 6:7 tells us, “You shall teach [God’s commands] to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
I’m thankful that our collaborative model has allowed me more time with my daughters, so we can talk of the Lord frequently and have plenty of opportunities to address sin patterns and character deficiencies (theirs and mine!) throughout our days at home together. It gives us the time and space to keep short accounts with one another as God sanctifies both parent and child.
But I’m even more grateful for the partnership with ACS faculty who bring the beauty and richness of a classical, Christian education to life through quality lesson plans and inspired classroom teaching. These Jesus-loving men and women are helping form the souls of our children – who they’re becoming and what they truly love – through what’s modeled, how they’re loved, what’s spoken, how they’re disciplined and shown grace, and what’s read. Gratefully, in all of these ways, ACS students are daily pointed to the good, true, and beautiful things of God. What more could a parent want?
One of the resources that we’re providing to prospective parents this year is a BaseCamp Live podcast – Portrait of a Graduate: A Thirteen Year Proposition. It helps parents think through their goals for their children and the ultimate aim of education. It’s helpful to those who are new to classical Christian education, but even as a seasoned parent, it’s a timely and encouraging reminder of why my family has chosen this beautiful education for our children. I hope you’ll take a moment in the coming weeks to listen and be encouraged as well.
For Christ and His Glory,
Cici Scott
