Maggie Peters (1st Grade)
What degree(s) do you hold? From what school(s)? What was your area of concentration?
I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with an B.S. in Applied Learning and Development (a.k.a Education) with a specialization in Special Education. I have also completed 30+ hours of seminary and graduate counseling courses.
What is your previous work experience?
I spent 7 years in youth & college ministry working for Young Life and 4 years directing children’s ministries. I subbed at ACS for 2 years and then began teaching 1st grade last year. I am also on my sixth year as a co-teacher of my younger kids in 3rd and 5th grade.
Tell us a little about your family:
I have been married to my best friend, Jason and we are blessed with the gift of our 3 wonderful kids. As a pastor’s wife, it’s a joy serving and spending time with our church family. The soccer fields, riding lessons, karate dojo, and piano also keep me on the move with my family!
What do you enjoy about Classical education?
I love Classical Christian Education because children are taught wisdom and virtue appropriately to their developmental stage that God orchestrated. In our chaotic and ever changing culture, I love that kids are taught from a Christian worldview. They discover how to prioritize what they love in the right order with the Lord being first.
Why are you interested in teaching in at Austin Classical School? What do you love about students in the grade you’re teaching?
First graders are such a joy to teach because they are at an age to start really understanding the gospel and learning how to follow Christ. I love getting to know each child’s heart and seeing them discover more of who God is through all they are learning! It is such a great joy to watch kids fall in love with the Lord as they discover His truth, goodness, and beauty in all they learn.
What do you hope your students will learn from you this year?
If my students were to remember a few things after their first grade year, I would hope that they would say they were deeply loved, that they fell in love with Jesus through all they learned, and that they love His Word!
