Katie Mulholland (4th Grade)
What degree(s) do you hold? From what school(s)? What was your area of concentration?
Masters of Teaching from Biola University with emphasis in special education and Bachelors of Elementary Education and Minor in Biblical Studies
What is your previous work experience?
My first real teaching job was as a part time computer teacher for K-8, while I was subbing in local districts. I got my first real classroom in 2016 teaching 5th grade in Los Angeles where I stayed for 4 years. We then moved to Austin where I found ACS teaching 4th grade!
Tell us a little about your family:
My husband Matt and I have been married for 3 years. We just had our first daughter this summer, and she is love of our lives! I have loved all the newborn snuggles!
What do you enjoy about Classical education?
I love how Classical education crosses all subject levels. Students read classics from the eras we are learning about in history and it connects to their writing, science, grammar, and spelling. I love teaching at a classical Christian school because it also adds in a Biblical element to education that connects to all subjects.
Why are you interested in teaching in at Austin Classical School? What do you love about students in the grade you’re teaching?
ACS is such a wonderful community of students, faculty, and families. I love how we partner with co-teachers to allow parents and families to teach and encourage their own children with our guidance. I love the parent involvement. 4th grade is fun and it’s a time when they are transitioning from kid to young adult and they are learning to be more independent. It’s so fun to teach them and learn them in this stage of life!
What do you hope your students will learn from you this year?
I hope my students feel loved and cared for. I pray they grow deeper in their knowledge and love for God. And I hope they learn a little about themselves and others through our projects and class discussions.
